I pulled out my snow depth map and noticed that the area near Manitowish Waters was looking pretty good so I headed up to Winman Trails to ski. This trail is lovely, well marked signs, great grooming and a very comfortable lodge with changing rooms.
I decided to ski the 7k loop. The groomers were on the trails while I was skiing so there was lovely fresh corduroy. The trail is very dog friendly and I skied past a couple of friendly snow-loving dogs and their owners. There are fat bike trails that criss cross the ski trail, but they are well marked and the one time I was crossing at the same time as some bike riders we both were watching and were able to safely slow down and greet each other in passing.

One of the main reasons I love traveling to Winman is the outstanding facilities at the lodge. There is a nice warm bathroom, separate changing rooms and a comfortable area to relax near a fireplace, fill up a water bottle and refuel. They have a sports shop attached but it was closed the day I skied. But they do have ski socks in a vending machine, just in case.
It’s a great family-friendly trail. In addition to skiing and biking, they have snowshoe trails and a sledding area. Plus they have equipment available for folks who want to try something new. Read the Winman blog post 9 Things to Know About WinMan: Winter Edition to learn more.
