The ski area is located in a state park, so you need both a <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.wi.gov\/topic\/parks\/admission.html\">vehicle sticker<\/a> and a <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.wi.gov\/topic\/parks\/trailpass.html\">state trail pass<\/a> to ski there. It&#8217;s not crazy steep, so it&#8217;s skatable, but it&#8217;s super long so you will find skiers taking a break at the top (or in the middle a couple of times.)<\/p>\n<p>Then the trail a really fun downhill followed by some shorter rolling hills. After that,\u00a0the trail just continues to be hilly. I think the hill by the fire tower is actually more challenging than the first hill, but that may be due to the fact that I&#8217;m completely wiped out by then.<\/p>\n<p>I headed to Lapham Peak to try to get in as many hill miles as I can for peak training prior to the Birkie. The problem was that it was a very warm day \u2014 between 40-50 degrees. I waxed my skis the day before with HF7 (high fluoro) pink wax, which I was getting decent glide off of, but the snow was pretty warm, so it was a slow ski. I overheated during my first loop, so I spent some time in the lodge to cool down.<\/p>\n<p>I dropped an upper layer and put my hair in a ponytail so I could ski without a hat on (yes, it was that kind of warm.) I had a flashback to\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/rs\/2014\/02\/sochi-skiers-strip-to-shorts-keep-cool-at-warmest-winter-olympics-ever\/\"> nordic ski racers at last year&#8217;s Olympics<\/a>\u00a0who were skiing in shorts and t-shirts.<\/p>\n<p>I finished one more black loop and decided to call it a day. I didn&#8217;t get the mileage in that I was hoping for, but got plenty of hill work in less than optimal conditions.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_196\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" ><a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsinverbs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/lapham-peak-temp.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"361\" class=\"wp-image-196 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/wisconsinverbs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/lapham-peak-temp.jpg\" alt=\"lapham-peak-temp\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">49 degrees?
