The packed snow on the Jack Lake Ski Trail had hardened in the cold weather. It was crusty and icy so we decided to keep to the easy Green Thumb loop and skip the steep hills.
We saw some classic skiers who decided to take their skis off and walk up the hills … I couldn’t hold it against them. Luckily their footprints didn’t sink into the trail too far.
The grooming was excellent, but there were some dirty or bare spots to avoid. Overall, it was fast and fun. Some stretches felt like a roller coaster. It was an absolute blast and the sunshine was brilliant. I was glad to stay off of the steep hills and practice cornering, skiing without poles and double poling.
Now it’s back to Madison, the land without snow. Hopefully we will get some soon, but in the meantime, it has been an adventure exploring ski trails in Northern Wisconsin.
